ISAGEN, led by Luis Fernando Rico Pinzón, was one of the first companies that assisted in the creation of this initiative in 2006 amidst a very complex armed conflict situation in the country.

This recognition to the efforts of Luis Fernando Rico Pinzón to promote respect for human rights as a fundamental pillar of corporate management with the utmost conviction, was awarded by Colombian Guidelines, an initiative that has been in place for eleven years now in the area of companies and human rights, made up of 20 institutions, including civil society organizations, State entities, companies and international organisms.

The recognition was promoted by the Initiative's Steering Committee, made up of one representative of the companies, one of the Government agencies, one of the civil society organizations, and one of the international organizations, and the Technical Secretary of Colombian Guidelines which is carried out by Fundación Ideas para la Paz, one of the 20 most influential think tanks in Latin America according to the Go To Think Tank Index of the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, it was approved by the initiative’s plenary.

About the Initiative

Companies working in Colombia face the economic, political and legal challenges of an operation in a complex environment with the presence of illegal armed groups, illegal economies, fragile governance and weak institutionality. In facing these challenges, one of the clearest innovations has been the inclusion of issues related to human rights in business management.

Fundación Ideas para la Paz, driven by the spirit of contributing to the improvement of the human rights situation as regards business operations in Colombia, understood as an essential aspect in building sustainable peace, has been leading the initiative, which started out in 2006 and was publicly launched in 2010, with the support of the Swiss government from the beginning.
