ISAGEN develops generation projects by creating and maintaining a diversified portfolio of options, as well as by structuring and executing projects according to quality, sustainability and profitability criteria to help meet demand and enhance the Company's growth and competitive position.
While developing these activities, ISAGEN identifies investment alternatives for conventional and non-conventional generation projects that provide options for meeting the country's future energy demands with a greater degree of certainty.
Technical and environmental studies are currently being performed to determine the feasibility of the Samaná (Caldas), Cañafisto (Antioquia), Piedra del Sol (Santander), Patía (Nariño), and Andaquí (Putumayo) hydroelectric projects, along with two additional projects in Peru. Together, these facilities would have an estimated capacity of 3,500 MW. Efforts are also underway to identify new projects in other basins.
Non-Conventional Sources of Energy
ISAGEN is conducting technical and environmental studies to harness geothermal and wind energy. Coal gasification and biofuel production are also being researched.
